Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit Shit!
OK, I said I was going to be honest, and the people who are actually reading this HAVE kept me honest, so I thank you for that, but at the same time, DAMMIT!
I’m either absolutely no good at taking control of a situation or I am not serious about this challenge. But since it is 11:07pm and I’m writing this, I’ll just say that I’m leaning towards the fact that I am rather serious about this challenge – so yeah, that vindicates me… I’m absolutely no good at taking control of a situation.
As I mentioned in my introduction to this challenge, Downtown Dad and I have a lot of adventures. (Yeah, lets go with that, I’ll call them adventures, when in truth, we actually have a lot of opportunitites to go have fabulous conversations with brilliant people and drink.) Adventures, as I’m calling them, tend to get in the way of noble challenges.
All of this prelude is leading up to the disappointing fact that I have failed again in completing my challenges – even moreso than the first day. We’ve accomplished some great strides towards improving our community’s symphony, we’ve reconnected with an old friend, and had some really great food. So on a spiritual level, this day has been really fulfilling. But as it relates to this blog, not so much.
1. Meditation: Didn’t do it. Didn’t even do anything that comes close to it. Thought about it a couple of times, but never found the time to get it in.
2. Gratitude:
1. I am thankful for Downtown Dad, who brought my computer (which I forgot at home) to the office (we work at the same place) even though he had the day off today
2. Thankful for friends and cube mates on Mondays who talk about their weekends and make me feel human
3. Totally thankful for the cow who gave her life for the outstanding ribeye steak I had tonight.
3. Acts of Kindness: Let me just say that this is going to be a recurring theme – We don’t live in a place where there are a lot of opportunities to do random acts of kindness. I won’t say I didn’t do anything today, because I always hold the door for people, and let them go first when we meet at an intersection. I just rarely have the opportunity. So, yeah, I totally held the door for several people today – even the elevator door!
4. One good thing: I was especially thankful for the opportunity to have dinner and drinks with our friends, the executive director of our local symphony and the new maestro. We had dinner at a lovely restaurant where an old friend has recently become manager. It was really lovely to get the rare chance to catch up in a relaxed setting.
5. Exercise: At 3: 30pm I got the worst case of “I-can’t-keep-my-damn-eyes-open” so my feeble excuse for exercise was my 30 minute walk outside in a desparate attempt to wake my self up!
Looking forward to tomorrow…

I would thank that delicious cow too! I have a bug about random kindness acts but I think I’ll blog about that. Keep on going! You can do it!

I’m still grateful to her, for providing the most excellent of leftovers!

I can’t remember where I heard it but someone was talking about how random acts of kindness don’t have to be monetary or big deals. Just telling a stranger that they look nice, or you like their shoes/hair/shirt/etc. almost always makes that person feel better. I walk every day and sort of look for something nice I can do on that walk. It might just be setting someone’s trash can upright and back in their driveway or tossing the paper closer to the house. I think you can do all sorts of little tiny things that will make a difference to someone. I really like the idea of giving out the random compliments and have started to do that as well. Certainly improves my mood and outlook to try to focus on something positive even for just the few seconds that it takes.

Oh Claudia, thank you so much for that! I had been thinking far too literally to realize it. Of course – everybody needs a little kindness. Today, I am grateful for you and your kind words!
