So a few years ago, my youngest was in a musical called Anything Goes. Being as involved as we theatre parents tend to be, the songs from that musical started to become the soundtrack for our lives. Now, 4 yeasrs later, those songs have faded to a dull roar, but every once in a while a stray thought will bring that soundtrack right back to front and center.
“If you ever lose your mind, I’ll be kind.
If you ever lose your shirt, I’ll be hurt.
If you’re ever in a mill and get sawed in half,
I won’t laugh.
It’s friendship, friendship,
Just a perfect blendship,
When other friendships have been “forgate”
Ours will still be great!”
Today for instance… for some reason I started thinking about my high school pals. We have a friendship that “still is great!” The three girls that were the core group of tried and true, through thick and thin, through good times and bad, girlfriends. The ones that stay with you all the way to a day 45 years later when you’re feeling a little mortal, and starting to take stock of what’s real and what’s not.
Here we are in 1980-something or other…. with our first offspring. Not surprisingly, the offspring stayed with us, each of the fathers, did not. And yet – jadda jadda jadda, jing jing jing – we are still a thing.
Here we are, celebrating our fave holiday – again… TOGETHER!
I was just feeling a little nostalgic this evening and wanted to give a shout out to my besties. Even though our conversations are few and far between nowadays. We’re still the same old girls we used to be. And belive me, if either of these girls is ever in a mill and gets sawed in half… I totally won’t laugh…
Well, maybe just a little.
