Apparently, a couple of years ago, there was a bit of a kerfuffle over the taste and amount of vegetables and sauce in some Healthy Choice frozen meals. So Healthy Choice asked for and got feedback on ways to improve their recipes and then took action. The result of their improvements have given us some great new vegetarian options with better taste & the nutrition we expect from Healthy Choice.
I tried the Portabella Spinach Parmesan and found it quite tasty. Whole wheat pasta, portabella mushrooms, red peppers, tomatoes and spinach – yummy!
The 100% Naturals line of Café Steamers uses a really clever tray-in-tray packaging/cooking method that separates the ingredients while cooking. It looks almost like a small colander inside a slightly bigger bowl. The plastic wrap acts as a lid, and in 4 minutes in the microwave you have a nicely cooked meal. The veggies are not overdone, nor are they dried out, or worse, mushy! You simply pour the veggies from the small colander on top into the sauce in the bowl below, and the result is a very tasty meal. If you’re clever, the plastic tray is sturdy enough that you could reuse it for your own veggies at home, although you’d have to use some plastic wrap for a lid.
